About Mssui

Founded in February 2008, Mssui is dedicated to delivering centralized coverage of competitive ultimate. Our aim is to keep our readers up to date on the issues and events relevant to the scene in a clear, precise, and regular manner. Mssui originated as a means to fill the information gap left between a cacophonous r.s.d. and a woefully obsolete UPA newsletter, but hopes to grow well beyond filling that void.

Who are we?

Principles Matthew "Skip" Sewell, Cyle Van Auken, and Gwen Ambler created the foundation for the site in the Winter of 2007, but it was not until Shane Steward joined in January of 08 that the site really began to take shape. Gwen has since gone on to rejuvenate her first love, icultimate. Mssui depends on the dedication of freelance writers and photographers for its content.

If you would be interested in contributing to mssui as a writer, photographer, or editor, please email us. Compensation possible.

STAFF

Primary | Author Cyle Van Auken

Cyle got his start in ultimate journalism through pioneering the site collegeulti.com. Though at times graphically challenged , CollegeUlti set a new standard for covering competitive ultimate by blending a confident voice with an in depth knowledge of the college scene.

Editor Jack Hanlon

Jack 'Handy' Hanlon has been playing ultimate for nine years but with some ill-timed injuries (2003 ankle tear, 2006 ACL tear, 2008 rotator cuff tear) has made a more permanent place for himself in the world as spectator and speculator. When actually playing you might've seen him in the NE on St. Peters Prep, coaching Holy Cross, cutting his teeth at Brooklyn, balancing ultimate and "off-field activities" with Colt .45 or traveling around Europe playing for Johnny Chimpo, the premier open team in Ireland.

Buzz Who?

They've shown dominance on three continents - first by winning the 2006 World games in Perth, then by barnstorming America's elite with a finals run at ECC 2007, and topping it all of with a home court victory over celebrated rivals (and current UPA champions) Seattle Sockeye. Yet despite these successes Japan's Buzz Bullets are virtually unknown among most ultimate circles. Worlds 2008 might change all that. Full Story »

George is Furious

We all remember it. October 25th, 2007. A rainy/overcast Thursday in Sarasota, Florida was a day that will live in infamy. Furious George, UPA Champions in 2002, 2003, 2005, and World Champions in 2004, came in as a 1 seed (4th overall), set to shred through their pool as they had every year this millennium. Full Story »
